Electronic Physics Auxiliary Publication Service (EPAPS)

Announcement: Discontinuation of Printed PAPS (April 1999)

Since 1976, AIP’s Physics Auxiliary Publication Service (PAPS) has provided a depository for printed materials supplemental to articles in AIP and Member Society journals, and has made these materials available to the physics community for a nominal charge. In 1996 an electronic version, EPAPS, was launched to take advantage of the ease of access to information that the World Wide Web provides, with EPAPS deposit files made freely available for downloading. Thus, for the past few years authors have had the option to either deposit printed material into PAPS or to submit electronic files for EPAPS.

Due to the growing use of the Web and the convenience of downloading electronic files, AIP will discontinue acceptance of new printed materials for deposit in PAPS, and will continue this program into the future via the electronic service, EPAPS. Details are as follows:

  • Printed PAPS materials will not be accepted for manuscripts originally submitted to Editors of AIP journals after April 30, 1999.
  • For all manuscripts submissions after that date, deposits into PAPS/EPAPS must be in electronic form, and will be handled as EPAPS deposits.
  • No printed materials will be accepted into PAPS for articles with scheduled publication dates after October 30, 1999, regardless of the original submission date.
  • All printed materials in the PAPS archive, though, will remain available to the community via direct order from AIP.
