The January 2011 launch of the new AAPM Career Services program is a smashing success! I know that AAPM will benefit greatly from this partnership. AIP brings a new level of expertise to the program that equates to much more value, both to the job seeker and employer.

Partnering with the American Institute of Physics on the IEEE Computer Society Career Center has made a world of difference for us. We have much greater control of our destiny in this relationship and find much greater responsiveness from the PTCN staff than we found with our current relationship with our own parent organization. With its long experience in online job boards and productive relationships with the platform vendor (Boxwood), PTCN staff was able to guide us smoothly through the development of our own site within the larger PTCN site. Their staff have also be quite helpful in selling jobs listings for our site, both electronically through email and over the phone, and by participating with us at selected tradeshows. This career effort builds on the long-term -- it must be 10 years by now -- relationship our two organizations have had in jointly launching and publishing Computing in Science & Engineering magazine.

As one of AIP's smaller member societies, AVS would have difficulty justifying the cost and effort of a stand-alone online employment service. Partnering with AIP in their Physics Today Career Network is therefore crucial, with AVS easily able to provide the robust, contemporary AVS Career Center to its members as a useful benefit. Sharing jobs with the other four Network sites allows the AVS Career Center to give its users access to thousands more jobs annually than an AVS-only site would. Additionally, AVS saves thousands of dollars each month compared to the expense of operating its own board, as PTCN charges no monthly or annual fees and only makes a profit when new job postings are purchased. This venture is truly a win-win situation for AVS and we value this partnership. Working with the PTCN staff is an absolute pleasure as well, as they are highly responsive and helpful and extremely proactive, regularly approaching us with valuable ideas and suggestions which have helped us build upon this benefit and promote it more effectively.
