Texts Most Frequently Cited As Undergraduate Preparation by the Chairs of Physics Graduate Departments

This list was compiled from the "Graduate Programs in Physics, Astronomy and Related Fields," an annual publication of the American Institute of Physics. In the 1994-95 edition, over 100 chairs of PhD-granting physics departments cited specific texts as the undergraduate preparation they expected of students applying to their programs. The following are those texts cited most often by department chairs and includes the title, latest edition as of January 1996, author(s)/editor(s) of that edition, ISBN number, publisher, and in several cases the Library of Congress number. This list was developed by the Statistical Research Center.
