Publishers of Scientific, Technical, and Medical research have long faced the challenge of acquiring every character and character representation (glyph) required to compose the documents that they wish to publish. While this task was difficult enough in the print era, it has become exponentially more troublesome in the electronic/online era. Today, not only do publishers need to have every character/glyph combination available to print their books and journals, but publishers also need to make sure that readers of the electronic versions of each document meet the same requirement before they are able to view the document on their workstations or other viewing devices. To meet this requirement, a group of scientific publishers have developed the STIX Fonts. These fonts will be freely distributed under license to publishers, readers, and software developers.
