Joseph Serene has been, since 2006, Treasurer/Publisher of the American Physical Society and Professor Emeritus at Georgetown University. His previous scientific career included research, teaching, and administrative appointments at Yale University, Stony Brook University, and the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory and National Science Foundation. Immediately prior to joining APS, he spent thirteen years at Georgetown University, where he served as Davis Family Distinguished Professor, Chair of the Department of Physics, Interim Director of Music and Dance, and Dean of the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences. He is a Fellow of the American Physical Society and of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, and a graduate of Cornell University (Ph.D.) and Dartmouth College (A.B.).
