Into the Stacks - Allison Rein

Allison Rein, Assistant Director, Special Collections

With the first post of a new month I’m going to kick-off our new initiative. Starting in April, each Niels Bohr Library & Archives staff member will be taking over our social media accounts for one month to give you a deeper sense of what we do here at the Library, including staff introductions, some behind the scenes tours, and all the fun things we get to do here on a daily basis.

Into the Stacks - Venture in the Niels Bohr Library & Archives with Allison

I’m Allison Rein, the Assistant Director of Special Collections at the Niels Bohr Library and Archives. I started with the Library in November 2016 so I’m the newest person on staff (at the moment). I spent almost 10 years working at the Maryland State Archives in various departments, including conservation, the library, and special collections, so I’m well suited to the kind of job that involves being a jack of all trades, in fact it’s what I prefer. Here at the Niels Bohr Library I manage the book and journal collections, which includes overseeing our subscriptions, buying new books, and receiving donations as well as managing our existing collection which focuses on the history of physics and the physical sciences. I don’t have a background in physics, but what I lack in scientific knowledge I make up for in random facts about deaths in Yellowstone National Park, historical assassinations, and the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire.
