Into the Stacks - Amanda Nelson

Amanda Nelson, Archivist

We hope you’ve enjoyed Allison’s look into the workings of the library this past month. For the month of May, we’re going into the archives!

I’m Amanda Nelson, Archivist at the Niels Bohr Library & Archives. I started working here as a graduate student in 2008 digitizing our oral history transcripts as part of a grant. In 2010, I graduated from the University of Maryland and have been working with the archival collections full time ever since. I’ve done a little bit of everything over the past seven years including working with donors when we receive new collections, preparing the archives for our new shelving, and processing collections for researchers to access. Currently, I’m in charge of our oral history collection, updating our ACAP resource (I’ll give you a sneak peek of the new version), finding collections to digitize, supervising part-time assistants, and coordinating our outreach efforts. In my office, I show off my passions away from work through photos from my recent trips to everywhere from Spain, Rhode Island, Disneyland, and Wyoming, my fondness of musicals playing from my computer, and my University of Miami Hurricanes pride!

I’m looking forward to showing you some of the projects I’m working on this month. Keep an eye on our social media platforms to see what we’re up to, and I’m sure Allison will continue giving us sneak peeks of what’s the latest and greatest in the library.
