ESVA Migration Update

ESVA Migration Update

Since we posted the ESVA Migration FAQs here on Ex Libris, a lot has happened, and we want to keep you updated!

As of September 27, 2021, the migration is complete and the photo collections of the Emilio Segrè Visual Archives (ESVA) are safe and sound in their new digital home. The former ESVA site and storefront have been closed, with URL redirects added to get you to the right place. With these changes, you can officially download our high-resolution images, free of charge!

There are only a few exceptions to our new open-access policy, which make up our “reference only” collection. These are photos we want to remain findable on the web, but don’t have permission to distribute or share in any way.

It is important to note that while we can now happily share copies of most of our images, that will not always include copyright permission for publications. This will all depend on the copyright holders of the photo in question. It is the responsibility of the researcher and/or publisher to ensure that the appropriate copyright permission for a photo has been secured prior to use. We try to share any and all copyright information that we have in the metadata, when available, and are always happy to help when researchers have copyright related questions.

If you search from the box on the ESVA collections page, you will see results only from the photo collections. However, and very excitingly, an advanced search or search from the digital collections home page will yield results from all our digital collection areas! This includes foreign language oral history interviews, audiovisual materials, manuscript collections, and more! We hope this will provide researchers with a more comprehensive look into our holdings.

In the near future, we plan to post a detailed overview of the new platform that will include search, navigation, and copyright tips. You can check back here on the Ex Libris blog, or subscribe for email updates here

As you search the collections, please remember that we are here to help! If you have any questions, we would love to hear from you at [email protected]
