Dr. Schmid is presently the executive director of the Acoustical Society of America. He has been elected to the Executive Committee of AIP for 10 of the 20 years that he has been a member of the AIP Governing Board. In addition he has been a member of the following AIP Committees: Audit, Nominating, Rules and Governance, Publishing Policy, Media and Government Relations, Congressional Fellowship and Publishing Services. He was a Congressional Science and Engineering Fellow (1985–86) and received the Acoustical Society's Distinguished Service Citation at their Paris meeting in 2008.
