AIP Journal Content Now Available on the AcademicPub™ Platform

News Release

Melville, NY, April 14, 2011 — AIP Publishing, a division of the American Institute of Physics (AIP), announced today that it has signed a distribution agreement with publishing innovator SharedBook which makes AIP's catalog of highly cited journals available through SharedBook's AcademicPub platform. AIP Publishing is the first physical science publisher to make its content available on AcademicPub.

AcademicPub is an online service that gives educators access to a broad range of timely publications as well as sources available on the Web, which they can use to assemble high-quality custom course materials in a matter of minutes—without copyright barriers. Customized materials can then be distributed digitally or in print format, making them cost-effective both for institutions and students.

"We're constantly looking for new business models and new distribution channels that will allow us to get our content into the hands of a wider and more diverse audience," said Darrell W. Gunter, AIP's Chief Commercial Officer. "We were immediately intrigued by the AcademicPub model, because it streamlines the process of developing topical course materials and allows professors to quickly create a customized textbook with up-to-the-minute journal content, precisely suited to their curricula. More flexibility means more utilization of the high-quality research we publish – and that's always our goal."

Under the agreement, AcademicPub users will have copyright-cleared access to AIP's 13 scholarly journals, including Journal of Applied Physics, Applied Physics Letters, and The Journal of Chemical Physics.

"We're so pleased to be working with AIP and to have their highly respected physics publications as part of our Library," said Caroline Vanderlip, CEO of SharedBook. "Materials of this caliber covering the latest advances in physics will create incredible teaching opportunities for our users."

The following AIP publications are included in the distribution agreement:

  • Applied Physics Letters
  • Biomicrofluidics
  • Chaos
  • Journal of Applied Physics
  • The Journal of Chemical Physics
  • Journal of Mathematical Physics
  • Journal of Renewable and Sustainable Energy
  • Low Temperature Physics
  • Physics of Fluids
  • Physics of Plasmas
  • Review of Scientific Instruments
