Reflections upon Retirement
I have had the opportunity to work with a wonderful team here at AIP. It has been an honor and a privilege to work alongside them. After much thought, I have decided that it is time for me to begin the next chapter of my life. I plan to retire at the end of 2026 and will always be grateful for the opportunities, experiences, and friendships I have gained throughout my time here.
AIP has recently posted the ad for Director, Social Science Research, The person selected for this role will lead one of the longest-running programs studying the scientific enterprise in the United States, an 80+ year tradition of research on education, careers, workforce pathways, and scientific communities.
Leading a multidisciplinary team of nine researchers and overseeing an annual research portfolio of approximately $1.5M, the role sits at the center of AIP’s longitudinal data, survey research, and qualitative research work focused on how science works, who participates, and how institutions shape opportunity and progress.
By launching this search now, we aim to allow sufficient overlap to support continuity for the research team.
As AIP approaches its centennial in 2031, this is an opportunity to help shape the next generation of research on the future of the scientific enterprise.
Please share the job posting with people you know with experience in social science research leadership. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to Trevor Owens, AIP’s Chief Research Officer.
