Committees & Groups

FEB 09, 2026

Broadly speaking there are a few types of committees or groups to which volunteers belong:

Resource and Advisory Groups

Resource and Advisory Groups serve as a resource to AIP management, to provide insight and advice on various mission-related program areas. Ad hoc task forces, and panels for AIP letter reports or expert reports are included in this group type. Members are external stakeholders who may or may not be connected with the Member Societies. These groups use AIP’s OnBoard platform to facilitate their work.

Prize, Award, and Fellowship Committees

Such committees recommended recipients for awardees. These groups use AIP’s OnBoard platform to facilitate their work. They might also use a dedicated awards management platform as relevant to their work.

Topic Based Groups

AIP organizes groups around distinct topic areas to facilitate exchange of information and foster Member Organization cooperation and possible collaboration. These groups often do not have fixed rosters or terms, and use AIP’s Exchange platform to facilitate their work. Attestation is required for AIP’s Code of Conduct.

Governance

This includes the AIP Board of Directors, the AIP Foundation Board of Trustees, and the National Council of the Society of Physics Students. These groups have distinct protocols and may be required to attest to individual AIP policies.
