Advanced Nuclear Energy Technologies Act
Purpose
To amend the Energy Policy Act of 2005 to direct the Secretary of Energy to carry out demonstration projects relating to advanced nuclear reactor technologies to support domestic energy needs.
Summary of Selected Provisions
- Directs the Department of Energy to conduct at least four demonstration projects for a range of advanced nuclear reactor technologies
- Specifies that these technologies should aim to provide: cost-competitive electricity, heat for the purposes of industry and synthetic fuel production, remote or off-grid energy supplies, or backup or mission-critical power supplies
- Directs DOE to develop R&D goals for nuclear energy research programs that would accomplish the goals of the demonstration projects
- Directs DOE to identify research areas that the private sector is unable or unwilling to support due to cost or risk considerations
