Integrated Coastal and Ocean Observation System Act Amendments of 2017
Purpose
To reauthorize the Integrated Coastal and Ocean Observation System Act of 2009, and for other purposes.
Summary of Selected Provisions

Provisions in both bills

  • Authorizes the administrator of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration to stagger the terms of members of the Interagency Ocean Observation Committee

Provisions in the House bill

  • Reauthorizes the Integrated Ocean Observation System (IOOS) through fiscal year 2022 and authorizes an annual funding level of $36 million

Provisions in the Senate bill

  • Reauthorizes IOOS through fiscal year 2021 and authorizes an annual funding level of $40 million
  • Directs IOOS to implement a process by which observations are transformed into more easily used information products
  • Requires submission to Congress of an Ocean Chemistry Coastal Community Vulnerability Assessment every five years
