ARPA–E Reauthorization and Reform Act of 2019
Purpose
To amend the America COMPETES Act to reauthorize the Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy, and for other purposes.
Summary of Selected Provisions
- Recommends ramping up ARPA–E’s budget to $500 million by fiscal year 2024
- Expands scope of agency activities to encompass new technology areas, such as nuclear waste cleanup
- Requires ARPA–E to publish a “strategic vision roadmap” every four years
- Authorizes a third-party evaluation of the agency be performed after three years
- Requires new steps to guard against duplication of effort with other DOE R&D programs and verify grant applicants cannot secure private funding
