Reducing the Cost of Energy Storage Act of 2019
Purpose
A bill to direct the Secretary of Energy to establish a program to advance energy storage deployment by reducing the cost of energy storage through research, development, and demonstration, and for other purposes.
Summary of Selected Provisions
- Directs the Department of Energy to establish a “cross-cutting national program” to reduce the cost of energy storage technologies through research, development, and demonstration projects
- Requires the program to contain at least four subprograms focused respectively on large-scale energy storage, distributed storage, transportation electrification, and battery lifecycle management
- Requires DOE to set and periodically update cost targets for all types of energy storage technologies
- Recommends the program receive between $225 million and $400 million per fiscal year from 2020 to 2029
