Sustainable Chemistry Research and Development Act of 2019
Purpose
To provide for Federal coordination of activities supporting sustainable chemistry, and for other purposes.
Summary of Selected Provisions
  • Directs the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy to establish an interagency committee under the National Science Technology Council to coordinate federal programs related to sustainable chemistry
  • Requires the interagency body to develop a “roadmap” to characterize the field, assess the state of research, identify challenges for increasing sustainability in chemical sciences, and identify opportunities for expanded federal activity
  • Directs agencies to fund R&D and training programs in support of sustainable chemistry and report the resources allocated within their annual budget requests
  • Permits agencies to establish partnerships between institutions of higher education, industry, and other non-governmental organizations that support research and facilitate workforce training in sustainable chemistry
