Abandoned Well Remediation Research and Development Act
Purpose
To amend the Energy Policy Act of 2005 to direct the Secretary of Energy to carry out a research, development, and demonstration program with respect to abandoned wells, and for other purposes.
Summary of Selected Provisions
- Directs the Department of Energy to establish an RD&D program that improves data collection on the location of abandoned wells and that develops better techniques for remediating and repurposing such wells
- Recommends DOE receive $30 million in fiscal year 2022 to launch the program
