National Ocean Exploration Act
Purpose
A bill to establish the National Ocean Mapping, Exploration, and Characterization Council, and for other purposes.
Summary of Selected Provisions
- Establishes a National Ocean Mapping, Exploration, and Characterization Council and tasks it with producing a plan for “an integrated cross-sectoral ocean mapping, exploration, and characterization initiative”
- Recommends funding levels for NOAA’s existing Ocean Exploration, Ocean and Coastal Mapping, and Hydrographic Services programs for fiscal years 2021 through 2030
- Directs NOAA to establish a system to facilitate public access to environmental assessments and other ocean-related policy documents and associated geo-referenced data
