Nuclear Forensics Authority Realignment Act
Purpose
To realign the nuclear forensics and attribution activities of the Federal Government from the Department of Homeland Security to the National Nuclear Security Administration.
Summary of Selected Provisions
- Eliminates the Department of Homeland Security’s National Technical Nuclear Forensics Center and National Nuclear Forensics Expertise Development Program
- Establishes a “National Nuclear Forensics Center” within the National Nuclear Security Administration to coordinate all federal nuclear forensics and attribution activities, including R&D
- Directs NNSA’s university programs to support the development of nuclear forensics expertise
