Quantum Network Infrastructure Act of 2021
Purpose
To establish and support a quantum network infrastructure research and development program at the Department of Energy, and for other purposes.
Summary of Selected Provisions
- Amends the National Quantum Initiative Act by directing the Department of Energy to establish a program dedicated to research, development, and demonstration of quantum networking technologies
- Specifies that the program support “long-range entanglement distribution at both the terrestrial and space-based level using quantum repeaters,” among other applications
- Recommends Congress provide the DOE Office of Science $100 million per year over the next five years to carry out the program
