FY 2013 Senate Appropriations Committee Recommendation for National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering

The Senate Appropriations Committee has approved the FY 2013 Departments of Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education Appropriations Bill. This bill provides $158.8 billion in current year funding for a wide variety of discretionary programs.

Senate Report 112-176 accompanies S. 3295. Regarding the National Institutes of Health, the report notes that the Administration requested $30,631.5 million for NIH, the same as the current funding level. The bill provide an increase of $100 million for FY 2013.

There is report language pertaining to many of the twenty-seven Institutes and Centers at NIH. The report has no language regarding the National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering. Recommended funding for the Institute is as follows:

FY 2012 appropriation is $338.1 million FY 2013 Administration request is $336.9 million, a decrease of $1.2 million or 0.4 percent FY 2013 Senate Appropriations Committee recommendation is $337.9 million, a decrease of $0.2 million or essentially level funding
