FY 2013 National Defense Authorization Act: Science and Technology Funding

President Barack Obama signed H.R. 4310, the National Defense Authorization Act for FY 2013 on January 2. This legislation provides policy and budget guidance for the Department of Defense and the National Nuclear Security Administration. It does not provide the actual funding, which is contained in the yet to be enacted FY 2013 Department of Defense Appropriations Bill.

This is the first of a series of FYIs on this legislation. Other issues will review sections of House Report 112-705 , the 1,191 page Conference Report accompanying the bill, as it pertains to matters of interest to the physics and science education communities.

The conference report recommends the following funding levels as listed in charts starting on page 1,050 for the three defense science and technology programs, with figures expressed in thousands of dollars:
