Robert H. G. Helleman Fellowship Program

AIP is proud to offer unique opportunities to empower the physical sciences community through its Robert H. G. Helleman Fellowship Program. While the program continues to support current fellows, calls for new applications are currently on pause while we reconfigure the program for its next phase.

Robert Helleman was a physicist specializing in nonlinear dynamics and chaotic systems. Born in the Netherlands, he received his first PhD from Utrecht University and a second from Yeshiva University in New York City. He held positions at the University of Rochester, the La Jolla Institute, Georgia Tech, and the University of Houston, and he was well-known as the founding organizer of the Dynamics Days conferences.

When Helleman died in 2017, he bequeathed a fund to AIP to establish a fellowship program, initially focused on providing support for Dutch citizens pursuing graduate and postdoctoral work in the United States. During the program’s initial phase, AIP is pleased to have supported the following fellowship recipients, listed with the year of their fellowship award:
