Thank you for considering a donation to the Emilio Segrè Visual Archives!

We collect visual documentation of the personal and professional lives of physical scientists. Our collection is currently richest in portraits and snapshots of modern American physicists, astronomers, and geophysicists but includes many other scientists as well as photos and illustrations of laboratories, telescopes, accelerators, and other instruments, objects, and places. The collection is named in honor of Emilio Segrè , who is best known for his Nobel Prize-winning work in nuclear and high-energy physics but was also an avid photographer and author of books on the history of modern physics.
In general, we collect photos related to work in the physical sciences, including:

  • Formal and informal portraits of physical scientists
  • Photographs illustrating the professional and personal dimensions of physical scientists’ lives, including at work, attending events and conferences, engaged in leisure activities, etc.
  • Photographs of physical science instruments, preferably identified
  • Photographs of physical science research and educational settings with or without people

Please note that we may not accept everything that is offered because of staff and space constraints.
