Robert Oppenheimer oral history public release event
Background
AIP celebrated the public opening of its Robert Oppenheimer interviews with a special fireside chat event at its offices in Washington, DC, on April 8, 2026. The panelists were Oppenheimer biographer Kai Bird and Oppenheimer grandchildren Charles Oppenheimer and Dorothy Oppenheimer Vanderford. Moderated by MIT historian and physicist David Kaiser, the chat explored the interviews’ value for historians and the public, the 2023 Oppenheimer film, and the responsibilities of stewarding Oppenheimer’s legacy.
