Charles Adler is a lifelong science fiction and fantasy reader. He attended Brown University and has taught at Cleveland State University and St. Mary’s College of Maryland, where he has been a professor for the past 18 years. He specializes in atomic physics and light scattering, and has also led research in atmosphere optics, including chairing the "Light and Color" conference steering committee, which held its 10th international conference at St. Mary's College. He co-organized the photographic exhibition "The Atmosphere Exposed," a selection of atmospheric optical photographs, which was shown at St. Mary's College, the National Science Foundation, and the AIP headquarters in College Park. He served as chair of the St. Mary's College Physics department for nine years, and created the Natural Science and Mathematics lecture series at St. Mary's College. Dr. Adler sporadically writes a blog on science in science fiction and other matters (chckadler.wordpress.com).  "Wizards" is his first, but hopefully not his last book.
