Physics Today November 1968 cover

We are beginning a new series of posts with the help of Physics Today magazine. Each month we’ll be finding an article from the online archive of Physics Today that highlights the history of physics or a project worked on with the help of the Niels Bohr Library & Archives. These articles will be free content for six months, meaning you don’t need a subscription to Physics Today to view them.

To begin, we have the book review by R. Bruce Lindsay from November 1968 on the Sources for History of Quantum Physics. This book, by Thomas S. Kuhn, John L. Heilbron, Paul L. Forman, and Lini Allen was the culmination of oral history interviews and research conducted with some of the preeminent quantum physicists of the early 20th century. Copies of the papers can be found at numerous archives around the world and this project was one of the first collections held by the Niels Bohr Library & Archives in the 1960s. The interviews can now be seen online as part of our collection of over 1,000 digitized transcripts.
