Creating Monster Winds to Boost Hurricane Safety

- Hurricane - A rotating weather system that forms and intensifies over tropical oceans and produces storms with winds stronger than 74 mph. The Atlantic hurricane season lasts from June 1st to November 30th.
- Saffir-Simpson Scale - A scale used to classify hurricanes based on the storm’s maximum sustained wind speed. A Category 1 hurricane has sustained winds of at least 74mph and a Category 5 hurricane has winds over 156pmh.
- Structural testing - Testing used to identify weaknesses in home materials and components such as windows, shingles and siding, especially when exposed to conditions such as those in a hurricane.
