Forecasters Predict A Heavy Hurricane Season

(Inside Science) -- Forecasters at NOAA’s Climate Prediction Center predicted in May that 2020 would likely be an above-average hurricane season.

Already this year, the Atlantic basin has produced six named storms, delivering some of the earliest activity in the past 50 years. None of the storms reached hurricane intensity, but the total number of them fits with forecasts of a busy season.

A forecast of heavy rains during a hurricane is easy to believe, but what about when the forecast is for a historic storm event and it’s one of several big storms to hit in the last few years? Will we see one of these historic events this year?
