FY 2009 Omnibus Funding Bill: NIBIB and Math & Science Partnerships

There is no descriptive narrative in the accompanying statement to H.R. 1105, the FY 2009 Omnibus Funding Bill, regarding the National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering, and the Mathematics and Science Partnerships administered by the U.S. Department of Education.

Line item budgets are found for these programs in Division F - Departments of Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act, 2009 which is available here . Page citations for the programs are provided below. All figures are taken from the cited table.

National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering:

The Explanatory Statement, under a section entitled Office of the [National Institutes of Health] Director on pdf page 86 notes: “the bill provides funding for a 2 percent increase in the average cost of new and competing as well as non-competing grants.”See pdf page 413 as the source of the following figures:

The FY 2008 enacted NIBIB budget was $299.7 million.
The Bush Administration’s FY 2009 request was $300.3 million.
The omnibus bill recommends $308.2 million. This is an increase of $8.5 million or 2.8 percent over FY 2008.

The FY 2008 budget was $179.0 million.
The Bush Administration’s FY 2009 request was $179.0 million.
The omnibus bill recommends $179.0 million – level funding.
