FY 2011 Request for Defense Science and Science and Technology Programs
The FY 2011 budget for the Department of Defense would increase by 2.2 percent under the Obama Administration’s request, from $693.3 billion to $708.2 billion. Spending for the three defense science and technology programs would decline by 12.5 percent.
Considerable numerical data regarding S&T programs in the DOD budget request can be found in the R-1 , a 118-page budget justification document produced by the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense (Comptroller). The below FY 2011 request figures are taken from this document, with percentage increases based on the FY 2010 Department of Defense Appropriations Act enacted in late December. Note that it is customary for an administration to not include funding for earmarked programs in its budget request.

The FY 2010 appropriation was $1,882 million
The FY 2011 request is $1,999 million, an increase of $117 million or 6.2 percent.
Aggregate 6.2 Applied Research
The FY 2010 appropriations was $5,061 million.
The FY 2011 request is $4,476 million, a decline of $585 million or 11.6 percent.
Aggregate 6.3 Advanced Technology Development
The FY 2010 appropriation is $6,578 million.
The FY 2011 request is $5,359 million, a decline of $1,219 million or 18.5 percent.
Total 6.1, 6.2, and 6.3
The FY 2010 appropriation was $13,521 million.
The FY 2011 request is $11,834 million, a decline of $1,687 million or 12.5 percent.
Total Army 6.1, 6.2, and 6.3
The FY 2010 appropriation was $3,159 million.
The FY 2011 request is $1,945 million, a decline of $1,214 million or 38.4 percent.

The FY 2011 request is $1,975 million, a decline of $130 million or 6.2 percent.
