Inside Science Buzzwords:
- Swim Stroke - A coordinated rhythmic movement of the body for the purpose of moving in water. There are over 20 different styles, but only four of them are used in Olympic swimming events: freestyle/front crawl, breaststroke, butterfly, and backstroke.
- Deep Catch - A technique used for the freestyle/front crawl and other styleswhere swimmers pull water back behind them to move forward faster, like the paddle of a boat.
- Sculling - A technique used for the freestyle/front crawl and other styles where the swimmers bend their arm at the elbow and move it in a “S” shape motion through the water which reduces lift and drag on the athlete.
