We have reached the end of another academic year, and the beginning of meteorological summer is just around the corner. Astronomers wait until the summer solstice to call it summer. This summer, we are collecting data from a survey of members of our member organizations as part of the 2026 AIP Research Agenda. This is the first time we have surveyed across our member organizations since 2004. The report from that survey is still on our website.

We are here to provide timely and relevant data to the community, and the summer gives us time to explore new ways to disseminate our data. Please let us know if you have any questions we can help you answer. If you have any questions or comments, please reply to this message or write to Susan White, Director of Statistical Research, at swhite@aip.org.

Our latest report examines initial outcomes of astronomy bachelors, including whether they pursued graduate study, employment sectors, salaries, and more.

AIP hosted a discussion with two of Oppenheimer’s grandchildren and Kai Bird, co-author of American Prometheus. David Kaiser moderated the discussion.
