1998 Appropriations Process: Comparison of Results

It can be instructive to look at how much Congress provided compared to the Administration’s FY 1998 budget request. Below, for a sampling of selected science and non-science programs, are the FY 1998 request, the final congressional appropriation, and the percent of the request that the appropriation represents. For this FYI and the previous two on appropriations trends, bear in mind that funding can vary within departments and agencies due to the commencement or completion of projects or facilities construction, and also due to changes in the composition of accounts, if some programs are moved elsewhere.
