In the 2024–25 academic year, U.S. institutions awarded a record 1,065 astronomy bachelor’s degrees. This continues a 16-year trend of growth, resulting in an over 200% increase since 2008-09. (see figure on page 7).
U.S. institutions awarded 201 astronomy PhDs in the 2024–25 academic year, unchanged from the previous year (see Figure on page7). These totals do not include astrophysics PhDs awarded by physics departments that do not offer an astronomy degree; those degrees are included in the Roster of Physics Departments.
